02. From Successful Events to a Bigger Commercial Platform

Independent outdoor culture, media and events business

Connecting events, media, audiences and community to create a more sustainable long-term commercial opportunity.

The challenge

1

The business had built genuine credibility across outdoor culture through a combination of media, events and highly engaged communities.

Each part was successful in its own right. The bigger opportunity was understanding how those individual assets could work together.

Rather than asking how to make the next event bigger, we started asking what the whole business could become over the next three years.

What I did

2

I worked with the founders across commercial strategy, partnerships, events, audience development and longer-term business planning.

We reviewed where value was already being created, where opportunities were being missed and how events, media, content, partnerships and community could become a more connected commercial ecosystem.

That included developing new partnership concepts, recurring revenue opportunities and a three-year roadmap, while exploring how the organisation could play a bigger role within its industry and regional cultural economy.

What changed

3

The strategic conversation moved from individual projects towards building a platform.

There's now a clearer framework for prioritising opportunities, developing partnerships and creating recurring value beyond individual events.

Importantly, growth isn't being pursued at the expense of authenticity. The cultural credibility that created the opportunity in the first place remains central to the strategy.

Testimonial

“Sue helped us step outside the day-to-day and see the much bigger opportunity in what we'd built. She understands the importance of protecting the culture and community, but she's equally comfortable challenging us about where the commercial value is, what we should prioritise and what we should stop doing.”

let’s talk.
