04. Turning Numbers Into Better Decisions
Independent creative agency
Connecting pipeline, forecasting and profitability so leadership could see what was coming — and make better decisions earlier.
The challenge
1
The business already had financial reporting.
What leadership needed was greater confidence about what those numbers meant for the decisions they were making next.
Pipeline, revenue, gross profit, resource and cash were all being monitored, but understanding the relationship between them was where the real commercial value lay.
What I did
2
I worked with leadership to create a clearer forward-looking commercial picture. We introduced stronger forecasting and scenario planning, connected pipeline more closely with financial performance and established regular commercial reviews.
Instead of simply asking what happened last month, we focused on practical questions:
What happens if this opportunity slips?
How much pipeline do we actually need?
Can we afford to recruit?
Where is the profit really coming from?
When do we need to intervene?
What changed
3
Leadership gained earlier visibility of both opportunity and risk.
Forecasting became a management tool rather than a finance exercise, allowing decisions to be made while there were still options available.
The numbers became less about reporting the past and much more about deciding what to do next.

“Sue has changed the way we use our numbers. She doesn't just tell us what happened — she helps us understand what is likely to happen next and what we should do about it. She makes complex commercial information straightforward and has become a trusted sounding board for important decisions.”
