Building a Marketing & Sales Engine Around a Creative Agency

Independent content and production agency

Connecting positioning, content, marketing and business development into one commercially focused growth strategy.

The challenge

1

The agency had strong creative credentials, established client relationships and plenty of ideas for building its profile.

But its marketing, content, events and new-business activity weren't yet working together as one connected system.

The opportunity wasn't simply to generate more visibility. It was to create a clearer relationship between the audiences the agency wanted to reach, the content it produced, the conversations it started and the commercial opportunities it converted.

The business needed a strategy that would make better use of its existing strengths while creating a more consistent approach to attracting and developing new clients.

What I did

2

I developed a commercial and marketing approach that started with the agency's existing ecosystem rather than introducing more activity for the sake of it.

The work brought together:

  • Positioning and audiences: clarifying priority sectors, decision-makers and the messages most likely to resonate.

  • Content and thought leadership: connecting the agency's existing creative platforms, events and editorial ideas to specific commercial objectives.

  • Lead generation: mapping how prospects could move from discovering the agency to starting a conversation and entering the pipeline.

  • Sales and marketing alignment: defining how content, outreach, events and business development could support one another.

  • Operating structure: considering ownership, responsibilities, reporting and a realistic rhythm for delivery.

The approach combined larger tentpole moments with ongoing content, targeted outreach and pipeline management, supported by a phased roadmap.

What changed

3

I reframed the challenge from “how do we do more marketing?” to “how do we build a repeatable system that turns our expertise and creativity into commercial opportunities?”

It brought together previously separate activities into a coherent strategic direction, with clearer priorities, responsibilities and stages of implementation.

Rather than treating marketing as an output, the approach positioned it as part of the agency's wider commercial operation.
