Building Partnerships That Support the Mission
Environmental Community Interest Company
Helping a purpose-led organisation develop commercial partnerships built around fair value exchange, sustainable income and meaningful environmental impact.
The challenge
1
The organisation had established a compelling environmental mission and developed valuable relationships, expertise and opportunities for businesses to support its work. The challenge was turning that interest into reliable commercial support.
Traditional donations and one-off sponsorships could generate income, but didn't necessarily reflect the full value the organisation could offer corporate partners. A stronger model was needed, one that made it easier for businesses to participate while ensuring the organisation received fair value for its contribution.
What I did
2
The commercial sprint was designed to review the organisation's existing partnerships, communications and opportunities for corporate involvement.
The approach included identifying priority business audiences, assessing different partnership formats and developing propositions around financial support, employee engagement, volunteering, environmental restoration and longer-term collaboration.
A central consideration was defining the value exchange: what each partner contributed, what each received and how commercial activity could support rather than distract from the organisation's mission. The work also considered how to package opportunities in a way that made them easier for businesses to understand and commit to.
What changed
3
The organisation moved from thinking primarily about who might fund its work towards understanding why the right partners would want to invest in what it had already created.
That created a stronger foundation for commercial conversations, clearer parameters around what should and shouldn't be offered, and a partnership model designed to protect the organisation's cultural value as it grows.
Most importantly, commercial activity became an enabler of the mission rather than something sitting uncomfortably alongside it.
TESTIMONIAL
4
“Sue helped us look at partnerships completely differently. Rather than starting with who might give us money, she helped us understand the value we already create and how that could translate into genuinely useful partnerships. We now have much greater clarity about what we can offer, what we should expect in return and how commercial relationships can support our purpose rather than compromise it.”
